As an LGBT+ editor and writer, I know the power of words. I help writers like you make your writing kinder for your readers, whether that means fixing grammatical errors that could trip up your reader, or ensuring all language is inclusive. I have a BA from Dal, majoring in English and Creative Writing with a minor in Classics. I am currently enrolled in SFU’s Certificate of Editing. I live in Halifax, use she/her pronouns, and am a bi ace member of the LGBT+ community.
I am from BC’s southern interior but lived in the United Arab Emirates for two years. I’ve been in Fredericton since 1999.
Before becoming a Hansard editor at New Brunswick’s Legislative Assembly, I taught English to speakers of other languages: international students and Francophone military personnel.
In 2016, I started my business. Since then, I’ve edited and proofread novels, blog posts, recipes, travel guides, magazine articles, and Hansard manuscripts.
I specialize in editing fiction.
I edit a variety of texts, from educational materials (most recently in Treaty Education) to government reports. I also create style guides. My areas of expertise include art, culture, business, and education. I earned a BA in Communication Studies from Concordia University and am currently undertaking an MFA at Memorial University. In addition to working as a writer, editor, and translator (FR & DE to EN), I teach filmmaking at St. Francis Xavier University and am a practicing visual artist.
I’m a writer and copy editor with over 30 years’ experience in government and corporate communications. I studied editing and proofreading at Ryerson, plain language at Simon Fraser, and hold an MFA in Creative Non-fiction from University of King’s College.
I’ve been providing editing and writing services to a broad range of clients in NL and beyond since the 1990s. Projects I’ve contributed to include museum exhibits, books, government reports, print promotions, advocacy materials, corporate communications, and web sites. My work was honoured with the Editors Canada’s Tom Fairley Award for Editorial Excellence (2012). Five additional books I’ve edited have won provincial or regional awards.
I’m an editor who specializes in non-fiction, such as books, blogs, articles, essays, and reviews. I mainly do copy and stylistic editing, but also offer authenticity reading, manuscript evaluation, and content writing services. My niche topics include literature, film, art, ecology/environment, and intersectional feminism/gender studies. My academic history reflects these interests, and I enjoy bringing chaos to order for businesses, organizations, publishers, and indie authors.
Books, reading, language, and culture have been my interests since I was a child. As a student I studied and trained in folklore, languages, history, and culture. As an editor, I have applied my knowledge and background to the task of enhancing communication through the medium of the printed word, whether on paper or on screen. Helping others to communicate their ideas, emotions, thoughts and actions effectively and precisely is my goal.
