As an LGBT+ editor and writer, I know the power of words. I help writers like you make your writing kinder for your readers, whether that means fixing grammatical errors that could trip up your reader, or ensuring all language is inclusive. I have a BA from Dal, majoring in English and Creative Writing with a minor in Classics. I am currently enrolled in SFU’s Certificate of Editing. I live in Halifax, use she/her pronouns, and am a bi ace member of the LGBT+ community.

After over 40 years of reading speculative fiction, some superb and some less so, I have internalized an understanding of what makes a good story. Adding professional training, and critical reading skills honed during my years as a student of science, allows me to identify the how and why of a good story. I have strong language skills, an innate eye for inconsistencies and a scientist’s desire for clarity.

I have a background in creative writing and journalism, with a BA from the University of King’s College and additional editing training completed through Ryerson University. I have a deep fondness for the imaginative elements of poetry and genre fiction, but I also relish the learning opportunities present in nonfiction projects (history books, memoirs, articles and more). Christine has been helping academics, researchers, educators, small business owners, and authors share their message with the world for 15+ years. A member of Editor Canada, PEI Writers’ Guild, and WANL, she specializes in structural editing for memoirs.

I’m a professional freelance editor with training and experience in copy editing, stylistic and line editing, proofreading, and business and professional writing.

Beyond my training as an editor and writer, I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology with a minor in English and a diploma in Digital Media Design. My diverse educational background gives me a unique set of skills that allows me to be comfortable working in many different subject areas.

I am a graduate of Ryerson University’s publishing certificate program, the 2021-2023 co-chair of Editors Atlantic, and the owner and founder of Rookwood Editing. I live in Halifax with my partner and our cat, Zoe, and I love editing romance novels, fantasy, and science fiction. Before deciding to become an editor, I wrote my thesis on social criticism in Jane Austen, and I revisit her books at least once a year. In my free time, I read, write, sing, and play board games, video games, and D&D.

Books, reading, language, and culture have been my interests since I was a child. As a student I studied and trained in folklore, languages, history, and culture. As an editor, I have applied my knowledge and background to the task of enhancing communication through the medium of the printed word, whether on paper or on screen. Helping others to communicate their ideas, emotions, thoughts and actions effectively and precisely is my goal.

I have been writing and editing for over forty years, in professional positions such as software documentation specialist and newspaper editor, and as a freelance editor working with many clients. I maintain a high-ranked profile on the Upwork freelance site. Currently (2022) most of my work is for Moose House Publications, a publisher in Nova Scotia, and for the Apache Software Foundation, one of the largest organizations developing and distributing free and open-source software.
